The Garden of Eden, A Hidden Gem!
The Garden
The Garden of Eden is a 26-acre piece of heaven located in northern Maui, between Mile Marker 10 & 11, on the Road to Hana.
Admission prices have changed over the years, but understand that the price of admission goes back to maintaining the grounds. The garden is privately owned and receives no public funding of any sort.
Before you enter the garden, a small café also sells smoothies and ice cream.
Once inside the garden, you can travel via car or do a scenic ride around the grounds. But that alone isn’t enough. You should park the car and explore on foot to maximize your experience. Consult the map below.
We drove to one of the many lots, parked, and explored the surrounding areas. I got in the car again, found the next lot, and so forth.
Sure, you can walk it all, but with the grounds being big, time is something to consider here, especially if you are continuing down the road to Hana. Mari and I spent about an hour here and felt satisfied with what we saw. We could’ve spent more time here at a slower pace, but we had an agenda.
Also of note is that there are restrooms, a picnic area, and a small education room with a history of the garden.
Sights worth checking out.
Some of the things worth checking out while you are there are:
- Keopuka Rock Overlook (the famous rock seen at the beginning of Jurassic Park)
- Puohokamoa Waterfalls overlook
- Rainbow Eucalyptus trees
- Hike the enchanted forest and the anthurium garden
- Go to the pond and feed the ducks.
- Visit the Art Gallery
- Rappel Maui. (A privately operated rappel tour inside the garden)

Final Thoughts
The honest truth is that I almost didn’t make the stop on our Hana trip due to it just being a garden When essentially the whole island of Maui is its own garden. Don’t get me wrong, it was on our itinerary but the optional things-to-do column. Nonetheless, I am glad we stopped.
The Garden of Eden is perfectly named. I had never seen so much natural beauty in one place, where the air was fresh, the trees were green and colorful, the birds chirped, and the intricately landscaped trails throughout made for an outstanding experience- a relaxing one at that. The beauty here makes for a photographer’s dream come true. You owe it to yourself to come and check out the Garden if you are on the Road to Hana.
